Magical Product Highlight : SLEEP SACK

image0
This dreamy item is at the top of my recommended products list for all of my sleep training clientele! It not only aids in infant sleep training by providing temperature regulation, a sense of security, and an indicator that sleep is soon, but precludes other issues that can arise as baby becomes toddler. The toddler debacles of crib-jumping, diaper removal(TRUST ME- you do not want to experience this!), and limbs stuck in crib bars are never a worry.  Toddler already proficient with zippers? Simple solution! Have him/her wear it backwards!  Here in Texas I recommend muslin year round, but if y’all are in cold climate areas, fleece options are available as well!

A GOOD PLACE TO START SERIES: Last Stop On Market Street

🚎 A GOOD PLACE TO START SERIES 🚎 returns with Last Stop on Market Street, written by Matt De La Peña,  illustrated by Christian Robinson. This vibrant story chronicles a (Sun)day in the life of CJ and his Nana. We follow them from church, to their bus ride with old friends, and new friends, to volunteering at a soup kitchen. All along the way CJ asks questions to which his Nana gives real, honest, good humored answers. All too often parents/caregivers are too rushed or stressed to see children’s questions as an opportunity for conversations. Nana does NOT miss an opportunity to offer insight and imagination to her grandson. I love that, y’all.

A GOOD PLACE TO START SERIES: The Wonderful Things You Will Be

Today’s book, The Wonderful Things You Will Be, is another beautiful and whimsical children’s book by Emily Winfield Martin. It is such a special addition to any child’s library, and one that brings most parents to tears(or is that just me?). The Wonderful Things You Will Be follows children from infancy to school age as they grow, learn, create, help, perform, & step into their own. As always, Martin includes a diverse cast of kiddo characters, all working together while discovering individuality.

A GOOD PLACE TO START SERIES: HOME

image0 (11)
I bought this book for my kiddo as a St. Patrick’s Day treat; considering we were already in quarantine by then, my timing was (accidentally) perfect! With so much more time spent staying home because of COVID-19, Home, by Carson Ellis, is more relevant than ever! The dwellings range from rural to urban, intricate to imaginary, moving through time and space! The cast of characters are from all different places and all different races. Home illustrates the differences in people’s homes, while emphasizing the ways each one is special!

Our list continues with Dream Animals, by Emily Winfield Martin. Martin’s imaginative story and whimsical artwork include a diverse cast of characters, all spending their dozing hours with magical creatures in their dreams. Martin’s illustrations continue to be mindful, with visual representation of all races. This is important because when it comes to babies and toddlers, who they see is key! A GOOD PLACE TO START SERIES: Forever Young

image0 (8)

Today’s recommended reading is an illustrated, by Paul Rogers, story of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” song. Dylan has long been an ally and champion of civil rights, singing out against wrongful incarceration of black people, espousing anti-racism, and expressing concern for our planet and ALL of its people. A GOOD PLACE TO START SERIES: Strictly No Elephants

image0 (6)

It’s never too early to start reading and talking to your kiddo about anti-racism and inclusion. Black Lives Matter(!!!), and as a white person I want to be and raise allies. Anti-racism is the goal, and inclusion is a good starting place for babies & toddlers. I consider Strictly No Elephants, written by Lisa Mantchev & illustrated by Taeeun Yoo, to be a new classic, and an excellent example in dealing with topics such as ignorance, prejudice, inclusion, support, and forgiveness, and includes an ethnically diverse cast of characters. The story follows a little boy and his pet 🐘 who are not allowed at Pet Club Day because of an arbitrary “STRICTLY NO ELEPHANTS” rule. Read the rest of this entry »
